Reverend Mbhekiseni Mavuso is a passionate land activist with a theological background. He is not new to activism, having co-founded the Zizameleni Youth Club in the 1980s. He has been a vocal opponent of the Bantustan system of separate development for black rural people and has worked in numerous roles to promote rural democracy.
Mr. Mavuso has been involved in a number of activist formations and groups, including the Abahlali BasemJondolo (Shack Dwellers) Movement of South Africa and the Rural Network. In 2021, Mr. Mavuso became the Alliance’s KwaZulu-Natal coordinator. He has a certificate in theology and democracy from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, as well as a certificate in participatory development in education.
